Get involved! PTA needs your help to sustain the wonderful programming we sponsor at Travis. We are committed to building a community of student leaders and learners through a strong partnership with our teachers and administration. Everyone has a place at Travis - let the PTA help you find yours!
how do i get started?
First, each volunteer must annually pass a background check. HISD’s volunteer program is called Volunteers in Public Schools (VIPS). Every person who helps out in the classroom or attends field trips must renew their VIPS certification for the 2024-2025 school year. This process is free, but may take up to 2 weeks for approval. Note: you also need to be VIPS approved to eat lunch with your child in the cafeteria.
Next, we encourage new and returning families to join PTA for the 2024-2025 school year. Parents, Grandparents, Guardians, Community Members, and Educators are welcome to join - every membership counts! We are an official PTA, affiliated with Texas and National PTA. Annual memberships are $7.

Once you are VIPS cleared, please reach out to a PTA board member or attend a PTA meeting to learn about volunteer opportunities.
Library
The Travis Library is a beautiful space for children to check out books, enjoy reading, and conduct research. PTA needs volunteers to shelve books on a weekly basis. Contact our Library Co-Chairs to learn more.
CARNIVAL
Every year, PTA sets aside 80% of the net profits generated by Fall Carnival to fund supply reimbursements for Travis teachers and staff. This event is completely run by generous volunteers and community donations. Contact our Fundraising VP to learn more.
World cultures
Every year, PTA hosts a World Culture Night in the Spark Park. Families host a table representing a country and we enjoy food, performances, and community. Contact our Programs VP to learn more.
Health & Wellness
In the fall, Health & Wellness supports the Fun Run by creating themed exercise events for kids to complete. Each spring, Travis participates in Veg Out for the month of March. Classes compete to try the most vegetables and many students have the opportunity to expand their food palate. Contact our Health & Wellness Co-Chairs to learn more.
HOSPITALITY
If you'd like to be part of PTA efforts to show our staff and parents how much we appreciate them, then Hospitality is for you! We host teacher appreciation week, plus monthly themed celebrations. Contact our Hospitality Co-Chairs to learn more.
Garden
Our garden is a treasured learning environment unique to Travis. Garden volunteers help the classroom teachers and garden instructors work with students in the garden for 30 minute sessions. Contact our Environmental Co-Chairs to learn more.
Art
Each year, our students create over X pieces of art. In the spring, our school hosts an Art Show, where parents can purchase student art and view themed displays throughout the school. Contact our Art Co-Chairs to learn more.
Stem
PTA is proud to support a creative problem solving group called Odyssey of the Mind at Travis! We are also bringing back a previous school tradition, STEM Night.
